By Jeff Leon Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Illinois is a beautifully designed golf course laid out in a way that makes any golfer’s mouth water, but beginners beware, this course may not be for you! Numerous water hazards and sand traps on this course have the potential to make even first-rate golfers look foolish. With very narrow fairways and hazards to the right and left of almost every hole, you must be a very accurate ball striker to have any hope for attacking this course. In one single round I, along with everyone else in my foursome, managed to lose at least six golf balls to the drink As for the greens, they were kept in pristine shape, but none of us seemed to be able to get into any kind of rhythm throughout the day- most likely user error! As a tip to someone who is just beginning the game of golf and happens to find them self at Ruffled Feathers; don’t be afraid to pick up your ball and walk on. There is nothing wrong with doing it at this course. In fact, I believe most experienced golfers should do this as well, but as we all know pride usually gets the best of us. Although the course was very challenging, it was still a great pleasure to play a round here. The man who dreamed up this beautifully made golf course, Pete Dye, is a well respected course designer most notably known for the TPC at Sawgrass, home to The Players Championship. The opportunity to play on a Pete Dye golf course is a treat in itself and a reason to get out and give it a shot. As well as a gorgeous looking course, Ruffled Feathers also has great facilities and a pleasant staff. The clubhouse at Ruffled Feathers is a perfect place to entertain clients after the round- have a drink at the bar or stay for a meal at the restaurant while waiting for traffic to die down. The driving range, although not very large, was very well kept. All of these amenities are important, but without a friendly staff it really doesn’t matter. Luckily for Ruffled Feathers they have that covered as well. The staff was tremendously courteous, especially the head pro, Jake, who went out of his way to make sure our round was going well and seemed as though he really enjoyed his job. Ruffled Feathers is a great course for an experienced golfer looking for a challenge. It can be extremely intimidating, challenging, and frustrating all at the same time, which is why even the best golfers shouldn’t take this course lightly. |
